RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
How to read the research.
First, read the published values. Then inspect how each source applies. Finally, use this page to audit missing information, conflicting sources, calculations, and corrections.
Comparable class
The reviewed set is approximately 25–30 feet, centered on current power catamarans legitimately cross-shopped by a North American buyer considering the Halo 28. The range is a guideline, not a boundary designed to protect Halo. Any future outside-band candidate would require a documented cross-shop rationale before publication.
Current market
Available, announced/pending, discontinued, or unverified is recorded explicitly.
North America
Meaningful availability is required for the active buyer consideration set.
Intended use
Offshore, fishing, cruising, coastal, recreational, and multi-purpose roles remain stated.
Evidence hierarchy and controlling sources
For competitor vessels, applicable current manufacturer publications and current engine-manufacturer performance bulletins control when they clearly match the model and configuration. Secondary editorial, dealer, forum, video, and owner material may support discovery or historical context but cannot override applicable current primary evidence.
If two current primary sources materially conflict, the value is paused for owner review. For Halo, documented current North American Halo field-test data may control only when the same configuration, context, provenance, and substantiation expectations are preserved. Halo is not exempt from the evidence standard.
- 01Current manufacturer technical source
- 02Current manufacturer or engine-manufacturer performance bulletin
- 03Independent instrumented test with compatible configuration
- 04Authorized dealer price with exact basis
- 05Secondary editorial — corroboration or historical use only
- 06Discovery-only sources — never public substantiation
Claim status and missing data
Empty fields are not filled for visual symmetry. Status language is part of the evidence and never depends on color alone. Read the value first, then use the status to understand what the reviewed sources establish.
The original value, basis, source, applicability, and review are available.
A reliable public numerical value was not located, or the calculation is intentionally withheld.
A source makes the claim, but required context or independent verification is incomplete.
Credible values conflict. They remain separate and are never averaged.
Performance-test treatment
Each test is a separate event tied to one model, one configuration, and one or more admissible sources. Engine count, engine model, rated power, propeller, fuel load, crew, test weight/load, weather, water, location, and point-by-point RPM, speed, fuel burn, and economy are preserved when published.
A speed without its configuration and conditions is not a verified performance comparison.
The Costa “up to 65 mph” claim demonstrates the pending state: it remains visible as a manufacturer claim, but it is excluded from verified numerical performance rankings because the required test context was not located.
Manufacturer-published versus Halo-calculated range
A reserve-adjusted calculation is permitted only when fuel capacity, gallon system, configuration, and economy units are proven compatible. The formula is fixed for this pilot:
usable_fuel = verified_fuel_capacity × (1 − 0.10) calculated_range = usable_fuel × documented_economy
Calculation allowed
Halo's owner-confirmed `600 L` source capacity is converted to approximately `158.5 US gal`; configuration-specific US-mpg test points produce inspectable 10%-reserve results.
Calculation withheld
World Cat and Costa publish gallon figures without stating the gallon system. World Cat's proposed calculation remains withheld; Costa also lacks a compatible verified economy record.
Discrepancy handling
Conflicting evidence becomes a linked record with each credible claim, source context, materiality, review state, and disposition. Values are never averaged. The current set retains every material disagreement rather than selecting the most convenient number.
| Record | Conflict | Disposition |
|---|---|---|
| disc-halo-market-version | Saint Boats publishes dimensions and other configuration values that differ from the current North American Halo offering. | resolved scope difference |
| disc-world-historical-speed | A historical editorial test reports a higher top speed than the current model page and revised Yamaha performance bulletin. | resolved primary source |
| disc-costa-model-name | Costa's official selector and URL identify 264HC while page narrative repeatedly says 26HC. | public discrepancy |
| disc-twin-vee-gfx-gfx2-version | The current 280 GFX2 Yamaha event and prior 280 GFX Mercury event publish different model designations, dry weights, and top speeds. | resolved scope difference |
| disc-aquila-beam-precision | Aquila's current open-Molokai specification sheet publishes 9'9" beam while the current model page publishes 9'8.5". | public discrepancy |
| disc-aquila-cuddy-weight | The separate Cuddy page publishes 2,797 kg / 6,166 lb while its current specification sheet publishes 2,767 kg / 6,166 lb. | resolved scope difference |
| disc-caymas-identity-scope | Caymas 281 CAT was the authorized candidate label, but current primary research substantiates Caymas 281 HB and does not establish succession, continuation, or equivalence. | resolved scope difference |
| disc-caymas-fuel-scope | The model page displays 200 GAL, while manufacturer narrative and configurator establish 150 gallons standard plus an optional 50-gallon auxiliary tank. | resolved scope difference |
| disc-seahunter-identity-alias | SeaHunter 28 was the authorization label; the current manufacturer page uses SeaHunter 28 and 28 Floridian for the active platform. | resolved primary source |
| disc-barker-historical-performance-scope | Barker's manufacturer-hosted Mercury 300 launch-era event is not configuration-compatible with the current 4,500-lb, 500-HP-maximum, Mercury 400 HP V10 standard offering. | resolved scope difference |
| disc-calcutta-current-primary-conflict | Calcutta's current product page and manufacturer sea-trial video publish materially different twin-150 cruise economy and top-speed statements. | open |
Corrections and human review
A correction requires the challenged boat or data point, proposed correction, supporting source URL, and explanation. Contact information remains optional. Anonymous and identified submissions enter the same reviewed workflow. No submission changes published research automatically.
- 01
Submit
Required evidence and explanation are validated.
- 02
Triage
The issue receives a pending review record and duplicate check.
- 03
Verify
A reviewer checks identity, applicability, units, and source context.
- 04

Approved changes enter the audit log and a future public change log.
Public change log
Only material factual changes and substantive evidence-state changes belong in the public log. Each published entry should identify the affected boat and field, prior treatment, revised treatment, source basis, and effective date. Internal notes, restricted evidence, reviewer identities, and private submissions remain protected.
CURRENT PUBLIC CHANGES
No public research corrections have been released from this private review environment.
